SSN
Network Objectives
The SSN aims to define a set of common policies and practices concerning:
-
interconnection of existing platforms of European and international social
science cooperation;
-
development of such platform functions, especially (but not only) in the
“accession countries”;
-
development, on a multi-lateral basis, of researcher mobility and access
to infrastructures with particular focus on providing favorable conditions
for the working interests of both individuals and research groups in relation
to particular themes and programs;
-
development of an infrastructure network policy (especially in terms of
the development of specific scientific fields, common set of practices
for infrastructure operators, and new user practices)
In creating a network of research infrastructures in this way the SSN hopes
to:
-
Strengthen integration of the European social sciences community;
-
Increase and encourage social science research initiatives and competencies
in South-Eastern Europe;
-
Strengthen the capacity of European social sciences community to identify
and understand the different cultural settings and institutional structures
currently existing in Europe and to develop a means for utilizing these
differences to the benefit of all;
-
Development of co-operative practices among different national infrastructures;
thereby strengthening their European and regional role;
-
Promotion of the exchange of knowledge between the East and the West (i.e.
methodologies, history of scientific traditions, contemporary contexts,
problems and experiences of inter-disciplinarity);
-
Development of the social use of social sciences (i.e. focus on methodological
and “pragmatic” problems).
